Next Level Personal Training San Diego is one of the few remaining “hardcore”, no-nonsense training and nutrition companies in Southern California. Owner and head trainer Joe Lenihan has been a career personal trainer since 1997, and has competed in Bodybuilding, Powerlifting, Track and Field, Football and various medium distance running events.
He has trained many clients for these types of events, and now specializes in contest prep for Figure and Bikini Competitors, as well as advanced training for men and women willing to do everything it takes to achieve their best body possible!

We focus on doing exactly what the name of our business suggests: Getting you to the Next Level. We’re no-nonsense because we haven’t forgotten the fact that no matter how many cool, sexy, trendy new exercises you can cram into your routine, and no matter how “new age” your food choices are, you’ll never reach your full potential until you’ve addressed the basics:
- Training Intensity- Better to do a familiar set of exercises with intensity than an unfamiliar “circus act” you can never seem to master.
- Progression- Intelligent program adjustments and tracking to ensure continual progress vs. a random list of “cool” exercises with no direction.
- Recovery- A symbiotic relationship between your training, nutrition and supplementation program will ensure proper recovery between workouts…which is the time when all aesthetic and performance improvements are made.
- Proper Nutrition- No one will ever hear me say there is only one way to eat, or that certain foods or ingredients are poison to us all (okay…maybe trans fats). There is an ideal meal plan for every individual and food choices for every budget. It is my duty to create that plan for each and every client I train. 100% non-cookie cutter nutrition!
- Education- Each training session includes an appropriate amount of counseling on things such as nutrition, supplementation and what to do between sessions…something you rarely see at the big-box health clubs anymore. You will never be “run through a routine”. Learning is a must if you’re going to reach your full potential!
